60 Days post ceasefire marking Human Rights Day while children in Gaza suffer

Although the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip was announced two months ago, bombardment has continued and the suffering has not ended. Humanitarian needs remain immense.

With scarce and heavily restricted aid, many families rely on just one meal a day, while thousands of worn-out tents fail to protect displaced people from the winter cold. Rates of malnutrition among children continue to rise, food quality remains poor, key protein sources are unavailable, and the ongoing shortage of cooking gas is hindering the operation of kitchens and bakeries.

More than 39,000 children in Gaza have lost one or both parents, including 17,000 who have lost both, with many living in destroyed homes or tents without safe shelter or adequate social and mental support.

Two months after the ceasefire, sufficient shelter materials have still not entered the market, and 1.3 million people remain in urgent need of winter assistance.

The SOS Children’s Villages team in Gaza continues to provide support through parcels that include school bags, blankets, and food items, in addition to cash assistance, psychosocial support, shelter and education services, and care for children who have lost parental care or have been separated from their families.
