Line Manager: Children’s Village Programme Director

Status: Full Time- Limited contract

Location: SOS Children’s Village Programme - Bethlehem

SOS Children’s Villages works with children’s and youth. SOS Children’s Villages has a zero tolerance to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of beneficiaries.  Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is everyone’s responsibility and all staff are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct, that enshrines principles of PSEA, at all times (both during work hours and outside work hours).  Familiarization with, and adherence to, the Code of Conduct is an essential requirement of all staff, in addition to related mandatory training.  All staff must ensure that they understand and act in accordance with this clause.

Mission of the Position:

The Children’s Village Educator is responsible for planning and implementing educational programmes and activities for children within the SOS Children’s Village and Youth Homes, in cooperation with the CVP Director. Through his efforts the children are guided and supported to reach their full potential in developing the academic and practical skills required to earn a living and lead a well-balanced life.

Aunts, Mothers and SGH Caregivers.
Social Workers and Psychologists.
CV Bethlehem Staff.
 

Key performance areas and main responsibilities:

Assist Mothers to Create a Stimulating Learning Environment

Encourages SOS Mothers to play a significant role in their children’s education, stimulating their interest in learning within the home. Mothers must be guided to take a particular interest in the progress and achievements of the children at school.
Provides advice, guidance and support to Mothers on educational issues. SOS children must be made to see learning as a worthwhile, interesting and enjoyable activity.
Organize educational activities which the children will find interesting and enjoyable.
Assists with Village holiday programmes and activities, providing input as to possible educational activities.
 

Ensures Open Communication with Teachers and Schools

Acts as liaison between the Village children and the schools they are attending. This involves maintaining contact with teachers and other school staff as necessary to follow up the child’s academic and behavioral progress, in coordination with the social workers. 
Assists in school registration and the transfer of Children.
Ensure that all teachers / trainers involved with SOS children are informed of how SOS operates. Encourages teachers to visit the Children’s Village to gain a deeper understanding of the children and their educational needs.
Attends Parent-Teacher Association meetings of all schools in which SOS children are enrolled, together with the EPD Coordinator and relevant SOS Mothers.
 

Keeps Informed of each Child’s Educational Development

Maintains active files on all Village children (including youth). Ensures such files contain all documentation relevant to each child’s academic progress, including reports and performance evaluations. Regularly updates such files.
Conducts regular reviews (at least half-yearly) of each child’s educational progress, together with the EPD Coordinator and relevant SOS Mother, in order to assess educational development and needs. 
Addresses the Educational Needs of Each Child

Arranges additional educational support to meet the needs of individual children. This may include individual tutoring, after-school or holiday remedial classes.
Develops and coordinates a study programme for all Village children (e.g. guided home-work sessions) highlighting study methods and providing support in the children’s weaker areas, in order to improve academic performance.
 

Coordinates Children’s Village Activities and Events

Prepares an annual schedule for key Village events.
Assists in the effective planning and accomplishment of key Village events.
Coordinates the planning and implementation of extracurricular activities.
Creates and maintains an effective relationship with local organizations offering extracurricular activities.
Coordinates excursions for Village children. 
Communicate events through article writing, social media, etc.
Discovering talents in children and working to develop them                                      
General responsibilities 

Attends meetings as a part of the Children’s Village management team and assists with general managerial duties as required.
Coordinates closely with the Social Worker(s) to ensure complete guidance and wellbeing of the Child is upheld.
Carries out all duties in an exemplary manner and provides a good role model for the children.
Protects the children in our care from all forms of physical or mental violence, injury or abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation, including sexual abuse.
Handles all SOS property appropriately, including the financial resources of the organization.
Performs any other reasonable duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Submit monthly progressive reports to their immediate supervisor.

Child Safeguarding (CS)

·        Responsible within own area of work to prevent and protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination based on SOS Child Protection Policy principles 

·        Responsible for reporting any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the national CS focal person or any other member of the national CS team and/or to the respective line manager     

 
Qualifications and Competencies for the position: 

Must Criteria:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, Social Sciences, or related field (mandatory)

·        Minimum 2–3 years’ experience working directly with children in educational or youth development settings

·        Experience coordinating activities, school liaison, or tutoring support

·        Ability to model ethical behaviour and be a positive role model for children

·        Ability to coordinate events, meetings, and outdoor activities

·        Good proficiency in the use of MS Office, Email and other computer applications

·        Strong Arabic communication (written & verbal)

 

Competencies – knowledge, skills, abilities:

·        Understanding child learning needs and development stages

·        Ability to support study skills, homework routines, academic follow-up

·        Networking with schools and external institutions

·        Ability to design yearly activity calendars, tutoring plans and learning schedules

·        Encourages a supportive learning environment at home and school

·        Knowledge of risk reporting and referral pathways for safeguarding concerns
