Jamila, a quiet child with a lovable personality and a warm smile, studies in the seventh grade in the city of Bethlehem. Despite the difficult life circumstances she went through, her will and determination to face challenges have always been her first reaction, and she has learned to draw her strength from those difficulties.
Jamila has exceptional drawing and planning skills, as her teachers ask for her help in completing school paintings. This distinctive skill made her one of the candidates to join the school's student parliament, which is a first step in achieving her big dreams. She says: "I want to become a famous painter and a pediatrician in the future."
Despite the educational gap that children were exposed to due to the war when they were previously in Gaza, Jamila maintained her excellent marks in summer school this year, which made her a model to advance towards the seventh grade with steady steps at the beginning of last September.
In her free time, Jamila finds her passion in drawing and writing, and fills her paintings with her dreams and bright colors. She also loves spending time with her friends, siblings and the community around her, especially participating in new community activities such as picking olives.
Jamila and her siblings found this year’s olive harvest experience enjoyable at Mama Sabreen’s house, where she shared these special moments with her neighbors, and brought drawing papers to draw beautiful paintings inspired by the olive season.
Jamila has other four brothers and sisters who still live in Gaza, and are part of the Youth Care Unit in Gaza, she is in constant contact with them through the phone.
Jamila continues with all her strength towards a bright future, carrying with her big dreams and hope for a better tomorrow in her academic education and new life.
