Iman: A Journey of Hope and Transformation

Iman, a ten-year-old girl with an innocent smile and a gentle personality, joined SOS Children's Village Rafah in 2020 with her older siblings after facing difficult family circumstances. When the recent war in Gaza erupted, she was evacuated to Bethlehem in March 2024 and is now settled in one of the community homes affiliated with SOS Children's Villages.
Since childhood, Iman has struggled with serious health challenges. She was undergoing medical treatment, but the war interrupted it, worsening her condition. However, upon her arrival in Bethlehem, she resumed her treatment under the supervision of specialists, receiving the necessary medical care and psychological support.
Medical care alone was not enough to help Iman overcome her distress, she also needed psychosocial support. Her caregiver, Mama Samah, played a crucial role in boosting her confidence by assigning her small responsibilities that made her feel capable of managing her own life. Enrolling in a special school to catch up on the education she missed during the war, Iman overcame her fears about falling behind academically. She successfully completed her fourth grade and moved on to the fifth grade with determination and optimism.
Iman has grown into a more confident and outgoing child. She joined the school choir and began making new friends, overcoming her previous shyness and social withdrawal. Mama Samah continued to encourage her self-confidence, saying, “When I visit her school and hear teachers praising her manners and diligence, I feel immense pride. She is a kind, well-mannered girl full of life.”
Today, Iman dreams of becoming a teacher or a lawyer, reflecting the transformation in her emotional well-being, her confidence in the future, and the hope she now carries. She has found a loving home and a safe space to pave the way for a bright and successful future.
